Backup copies

A backup copy in Vepp is a copy of all the files of your website and its databases. The copy is saved in a separate archive.

Backup copies help:

  • restore information in the case of failure;
  • restore a website when importing it between servers;
  • save data in the case of the server, application, or equipment failure.

With Vepp, you can create backups either manually or automatically.

How to create backups manually

With Vepp, you can create a backup copy and save it to Google Disk or a Local storage.

We recommend keeping your backup copies on Google Disk.

Google disk:

  1. Go to My websites → click on the website name → click on Backup copies.
  2. Click on Create a backup copy, select Google Disk and press Create.
  3. Log in to your Google account

    Note:

    If you don't have an account with Google, you first have to create it.

Vepp will create a database dump, copy all the website files, and move them to the .tar.gz archive.

To change the Google account, in the list of backup copies go to Settings Connect other.

Local storage:

If you select a Local storage, backups will be stored on the same server where website data are located.

  1. Go to My websites → click on the website name → click on Backup copy.
  2. Click on Create a backup copy and select Local storage .

Vepp will create a database dump, copy all the website files, and move them to the .tar.gz archive.

Note:

Saving backup copies to Local storage may lead to data loss.

How to create backups automatically

You can enable automatic backups. Backups will be created once every 24 hours. In the current Vepp version, it is not possible to set a schedule for automatic backups.

To enable automatic backups:

  1. Go to My websites → click on website name → press Backup.
  2. Move the toggle switch from Create automatically to Automatically. Automatic backups will start to be created on the following day after power-on.

If you have a Google Drive connected, backups are automatically saved to it. Otherwise, backups will be stored in Local storage.

To save your backups to Google Drive, press Connect Google Drive and sign in to your Google Account.

Note:

Backups created automatically are stored for 10 days. After 10 days, they are deleted. To protect the backup from deleting, open the menu image2020-3-12_14-49-40.png and press Delete protection.

Delete protection image2020-3-11_15-58-32.png is enabled by default for all manually created backups. To disable Delete protection of a specific backup, enter the menu image2020-3-12_14-49-40.png and press Remove Delete protection.

Manually created backups for which Delete protection has been disabled will also be automatically deleted after 10 days from the date of creation.
