RAID is a technology for combining independent physical disks into one logical array. Disks can be combined into an array using hardware, software or hardware-software tools. Using different types of RAID can increase the level of fault tolerance and/or server performance.

DCImanager 6 can configure software RAID on the server when installing the operating system (OS). The server must have disk drives of the same type (SSD, SATA, etc.) and size. Disks must be installed in the server in a row, starting with the first slot. To provide DCImanager 6 with disk data, perform diagnostics of the server before installing the operating system. Read more in Running diagnostics.

When installing an operating system (OS), you can select the software RAID level. The options available depend on:

  • the number of disks on the server that DCImanager 6 has determined to be available for RAID creation;
  • RAID levels supported by the OS template:
    • CentOS 6, 7, 8 — support RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10;
    • Debian 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 — support RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10;
    • Ubuntu 14.04, 16.04, 18.04, 20.04 — support RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10;
    • Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019 — do not support RAID configuration during installation.

Drives that were not used to create the RAID will remain available for use.
